LONDON, ON- The Sting packed up their new look bus and headed down Highway 402 for an exhibition clash vs. the London Knights. Although it was the first exhibition of the season, it certainly wasn’t for the faint of heart. With four of the five newly committed players in the lineup, it was a great opportunity for the young guns to get their first crack at OHL hockey under their belt.
The Sting came out of the gates flying scoring the first two goals of the game, both on the Powerplay. The first from Jordan Ernst and the second from Adam Ruzicka on the 2-man advantage. However, the Knights were able to claw back scoring the next three. Victor Mete, Richard Whittaker and Liam Foudy found the back of the net for the home side. Aiden Hughes started the game between the pipes, playing 29:51 making 15 saves, he and Blair Coffin split this contest.
After the Knights took a 2 goal lead, Sting Veteran forward Drake Rymsha lit the lamp on a feed from Jordan Ernst. It should be noted that the play was started in the defensive zone on a textbook hit by rookie D-man Colton Kammerer in his first OHL game.
As the game continued both sides grew more and more aggravated with their opposition. The Knights paraded to the box, but the Sting couldn’t take advantage of it, in fact the Knights found the back of the net shorthanded 3 times. Down 6-3 the Sting were able to muster another goal off the stick of Rymsha, his second of the night. However it was to little to late and the Knights would take this exhibition contest by a final score of 7-4.
Blood would boil over near the end of the game as Kelton Hatcher tossed the gloves with Cliff Pu after the Knights crowded over Sting goaltender Blair Coffin.
The battle will continue tomorrow night when the Sting host the Knights in the 2nd half of the home and home. The puck will drop at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena at 7:05. GAME NOTES:
Rookie Alexandre Hogue found the score sheet in his first OHL game with 2 assists.
Drake Rymsha continued were he left off last season finding the back of the net two times.
