Kyrou Makes the Most of his Opportunity at World Junior Summer Showcase
Plymouth, MI– Sarnia Sting forward, Jordan Kyrou was one of 42 top junior hockey players in Canada to be invited to participate in the World Junior Summer Showcase, held at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan.
The 2017 World Junior Summer Showcase came to a close on Saturday, with the finale between Team Canada & Team USA. Team USA would take this one by a final score of 7- 5, however the exhibition showcase is more of an opportunity for team managers to get a look at players in action, before NHL and junior camps open this fall. Kyrou, a third year forward for the Sting and a prospect of the St. Louis Blues, hopes to be named to the 2017-18 squad after suiting up for his country at both the U17 Hockey Challenge in 2014, and U18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial in 2015.
You could say Kyrou made the most of his opportunity in Plymouth. The 6″0 177 lbs. winger was among the tournament’s top scorers, as he had four goals and five points in three games played. After being selected 35th overall by the St. Louis Blues at the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, Kyrou posted a team-high 94 points for the Sarnia Sting in the 2016-17 campaign (6th in the OHL).
In his first game Kyrou found himself on a line with Mason Shaw of the Medicine Hat Tigers as well as 3rd overall NHL draft pick Pierre- Luc Dubois. The three immediately found chemistry, which included a pretty give-and-go between Shaw & Kyrou. The three ended the game with a plus 1 rating, helping Canada White over USA Blue in a split-squad contest.

On Friday afternoon, Canada took on Team Sweden. Kyrou, joined on a line with Detroit Red Wings prospect Giovani Smith & first round Anaheim Ducks selection Sam Steel. Kyrou stayed hot in the 7-4 Canada Victory, as he mustered 5 shots-on-goal for two goals and added one helper.

Gearing up for the Showcase finale vs the United States. Hockey Canada rejoined Shaw, Steel & Kyrou in hopes of recreating the chemistry found in their match up against team Sweden. Although falling to the host U.S, the Sting forward was able to close out his tournament with four shots-on-goal, including this rocket that found the back of the net.
Hockey Canada will continue to watch all prospects closely before naming their final roster in mid-December. The 22 players selected will represent Canada at the 2017-18 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Buffalo, NY.
