Sarnia, Ontario:  The Sarnia Sting, in partnership with Imperial Sarnia Site are proud to launch The Extra Mile contest. We want to recognize individuals in the Sarnia-Lambton area who have demonstrated generosity, compassion and caring during the COVID-19 pandemic.  While the pandemic has created many difficult challenges, it has also activated remarkable community spirit, and mobilized local residents who have helped others in meaningful ways. The Sarnia Sting, with our proud partners at Imperial Sarnia are looking for your help in nominating a community member who has gone The Extra Mile.

“We’ve all made personal sacrifices to help stop the spread of COVID-19. It is our privilege and honour to continue to work with Imperial, a pillar in the Sarnia-Lambton community, to recognize and reward a community member who has gone above and beyond to help others during the pandemic,” says Jake Bourrie, Sting Director of Marketing Corporate Partnerships.

Imperial Refinery Manager, Glenn Hayes says the company was eager to partner with the Sting on this, “Caring and generous people make Sarnia-Lambton a great place to live, and we know there are many fine examples of residents who have gone The Extra Mile and paid it forward through extraordinary acts of kindness.  We see it in our own workforce every day, and we know these good deeds extend well beyond our plant gates and into the broader community.”

The Sting is searching for individuals who have demonstrated what it means to go above and beyond during this challenging time. This could be a frontline worker, or someone who has volunteered personal time and/or resources, or individuals who have made a difference in someone’s life during the pandemic.

Nominations are now open until Friday, February 19, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. EST.

Following the nomination deadline, the Sting will select one (1) adult (18 years or older) and one (1) youth (17 years or younger) who best exemplifies the actions as described above. The winners of will receive:

Adult Category

• One (1) $2000.00 (CDN) Esso Gas Card
• Two (2) all age “gold” tickets for when the Sting return to play
• Recognition on Sarnia Sting Social media and at a Sarnia Sting home game

Youth Category

• One (1) customized Sarnia Sting jersey, complete with the name and number of their choice
• Two (2) all age “gold” tickets for when the Sting return to play

HOW TO ENTER

• Complete the nomination form below.
• Submit a short video OR written submission with photo(s) explaining why your “champion” has gone the extra mile and deserves to win.
• If your video file is too large to submit as part of the nomination form (max 50 MB) , please contact [email protected] referencing the nominee in the email.
• Nomination Deadline Friday, February 19, 2021 at 11:59 pm est.
