Windsor Beats Sarnia 7-6 In Shoot-Out In Pre-Season Action

Tanner Winegard scored the game winner after 10 rounds in the shoot-out to give the Windsor Spitfires a 7-6 victory over the Sarnia Sting before a Tuesday night home crowd of 2,716.
The Sting led going into the third period 5-3 and did omen’s work on the penalty kill that saw them kill off a two-man advantage which included a five-minute major. The Spitfires hung tough scoring three goals to send the game into the shoot-out. Sarnia actually broke a 5-5 tie as Ryan Brown scored on the power-play at 13:11 from Alessandro Dilorio and James Barr, only to see Windsor tie the game late at 18:20 on Noah Morneau second goal of the game.
Windsor out-shot Sarnia 35-32 but the Sting were better in the face-off circle 37-32. Karsen Chartier went the distance in net for Sarnia, stopping 29 of 35 shots. He was especially sharp in the second period with a pair of dazzling glove saves. Ryan Chamberlain scored a pair of goals to lead the Sting. Easton Wainwright had a goal and an assist. Dylan Luecke, Beckham Edwards and Brown scored one goal each. Zach Filak contributed two helpers while Mitch Young, Carson Hall, Tyson Doucette, Casey Bridgewater, Barr and Dilorio added single assists.
A fleury of goals highlighted the opening period as both teams came out flying. Sarnia scored on half of their eight shots on goal to grab a 4-2 lead after the first twenty minutes. Chamberlain led the way scoring two goals. The first one came early at 3:55. Filak fed him a great pass for a tip in goal. Chamberlain’s second goal closed out the first period scoring, with a shorthanded goal at 16:38. It was Chamberlain first two goals of the pre-season. Edwards notched his second of the pre-season to tie the game at 2-2 from Wainwright and Filak at 12:33. Filak had a pair of assists. Luecke scored his first pre-season goal at 14:51 from Hall and Young.
Sarnia native Jack Nesbitt and Nathan Gaymes scored for Windsor as they out-shot the Sting 14-8. The two teams matched goals in a penalty filled middle stanza. The Sting out-shot the Spitfires 18-11. Wainwright and Doucette combined to score the first goal as they forced Windsor into a turnover with a good for-check which led to Wainwright’s first goal of the pre-season with Doucette being credited with the loan assist which came at 8:31.
The Spitfires scored late on the power-play at 19:08 with Noah Morneau lighting the lamp.
