Sarnia’s Come Back Bid Falls Short, As Owen Sound Comes Out On Top 7-3

Sarnia scored three goals in the final period, but it was not enough, as Owen Sound beat the Sting 7-3 in the Attack’s inaugural School Day Game, Wednesday morning, at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. The Sting faced an uphill battle entering the third period with a 7-0 deficit, but they did not give up and battled to the end scoring three goals. Beckham Edwards scored the first of two Sarnia power-play goals at 4:36 from Captain Lukas Fischer (St. Louis Blues) and Ryan Brown, who finished with a two point game, scoring the second Sting goal at 6:12. For Edwards it was his sixth of the year and Brown notched his third of the season. Liam Beamish drew the lone assist on Brown’s goal. Ben Pickell scored his fourth of the campaign, on the power-play, at 14:14 with Mitch Young assisting. Patrick Quinlan started in net for Sarnia and he played 23:24 making 17 saves on 22 shots.
Charlie Larocque made his initial debut in goal with the Sting since being acquired in a trade in October with the North Bay Battalion, coming in relief. Larocque played 36:31 and stopped 19 of 21 shots. Sarnia forward Carson Hall reached a milestone as he appeared in his 100th career OHL game, in his fourth season with the Sting. Tristan Delisle was the first star with three goals as he ran his scoring streak to 16 games. Harry Nansi (Toronto Maple Leafs) was the second star with three helpers and Nicholas Sykora with a pair of goals was selected as the third star. Mason Wray and Lenny Greenberg had two assists each. Goaltender Carter George (Los Angeles Kings) turned aside 26 of 29 shots. Sarnia will continue the first extended road trip of the season on Thursday night at the Sadlon Arena, against the Barrie Colts. The first period had great pace and lots of pushing and shoving after most whistles, but it was the Attack who mostly dominated the first twenty minutes, scoring three times. Michael Dec opened the scoring early on at 1:47 with the lone assist provided by Wray. Sykora made it 2-0 at 7:01 from Noah Nelson. Jake Crawford followed that up with a goal at 13:11 from Dec and Greenberg.
Quinlan made two exceptional saves later in the opening frame as he first foiled a wrap around attempt and a break away moments later. Owen Sound owned the shot clock 19-9. In the second period, Delisle scored a natural hat trick, which included two power-play goals, in under seven minutes. Sykora’s second of the game came with the man-advantage. After Delisle’s third goal Quinlan was replaced by Larocque. Nansi assisted on all three of Delisle’s goals. Owen Sound out-shot Sarnia 17-11 and overall 43-29. Sarnia was 2/6 with the man advantage and Owen Sound scored three times on four chances.
