By Carl Chimenti
Dennis Lominac had a three-point night which included two goals and Andrew LeBlanc continued his hot scoring with a pair of goals to help lead the Sarnia Sting to a 6-3 win over the Windsor Spitfires, Saturday night, at the WFCU Centre. Sarnia finished the exhibition season winning four of the five games and now await the season opener at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena next Friday night against the same Windsor Spitfires. Daylen Moses and Lane Sim also scored for Sarnia. Marko Sikic had two assists and Zach Filak, Lukas Fischer, James Barr and Roman Kukumberg added single helpers. Nicholas Surzycia turned in another strong effort in net stopping 20 of 23 shots. Sarnia scored three goals in the third period and were pretty much in control throughout the entire contest leading from start to finish. The Sting out shot Windsor 35-22 and scored the only power-play goal (1/3). The two teams traded goals in the opening period with Sarnia out-shooting Windsor 10-7.
The Sting opened the scoring at 4:43 just seconds after a Windsor penalty had expired. Filak set up Sim in the slot and he beat Windsor goaltender Joey Costanzo on the glove side. The Spitfires tied the game at 10:48 on a goal from Ryan Struthers, with assists credited to both Ryan Abraham and Liam Greentree. The Sting had two chances with the man-advantage but failed to convert. Sarnia scored two quick goals in the second to open a 3-1 lead. Lominac converted on the power-play at 8:03 from Kukumberg and Fischer. Less than two minutes later it was LeBlanc who netted his team leading 6th of the pre-season and 4th in two games at 9:44 on a set-up from Sikic. Windsor scored a late goal at 17:45 from Liam Greentree with assists going to A.J. Spellacy and James Jodoin. For the second consecutive period the Sting had the better on the shot clock, 12-8.
