Guelph at Sarnia Game Preview – December 14
For the second time this weekend, the Sarnia Sting will take on the Guelph Storm, this time, at home. This afternoon, the Sting are looking for their third straight win after a points-filled weekend. Puck drop is at 2:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The Sting have played their last two on the road, and will finish out their busy weekend back at the hive. On Friday evening, Sarnia snapped their losing streak with an impressive performance all night and a nerve-wracking shootout. Ryan Brown scored his fifth goal of the season early in the second period, assisted by Beamish. The Storm responded late in the period, but Cameron Aucoin tied it in the third. Easton Walos snapped the only shootout goal of the night, winning the game. Goaltender Patrick Quinlan anchored the win, stopping 32 shots in regulation and all four shootout shots faced.
On Saturday night, the Sting took on their Division leader, the Flint Firebirds, winning 3-2 in overtime. Beckham Edwards scored early in the first to even out the scoring, assisted by new addition to the team, Tyler Challenger. Cameron Aucoin went on to score his second game-tieing goal of the weekend to force overtime. Ben Pickell, who now has 15 points on the season, scored a top-shelf goal to win the game.
This afternoon, the team will need to maintain their momentum from the successful weekend into one final game. Despite coming off back-to-back games, the Sting will have to remain dialled as the Storm will be looking for a win in this afternoon’s rematch.
