GAME REPORT: Sting Win Overtime Thriller 4-3 in Guelph
The Sarnia Sting visited the Guelph Storm on Sunday night. Tonight’s matchup featured a little bit of everything. Big saves, fights, and highlight reel goals filled the evening.
Sarnia came away with a thrilling 4-3 win in overtime. Here’s what went down.
In the opening period, Guelph was first on the board. Storm forward Isaac Ratcliffe scored a nifty shorthanded goal, and the home side led by a goal heading into intermission.
Once the second period rolled around, the Sting began to swarm. Sean Josling dropped the mitts with Storm forward Mason Primeau, and Josling’s efforts clearly sparked the boys in black.
With about three minutes left in the period, Sarnia got on the board. Adam Ruzicka scored thanks to a tricky hesitation move. Storm goalie Anthony Popovich bit on the fake, and Ruzicka wired it home.
Just seconds after Ruzicka tied the game, Sting forward Curtis Egert scored another one. For Egert, it was his third of the season. The second-year forward is on a hot stretch right now, having scored in three of the last four games.

Storm captain Garrett McFadden tied the game at 2-2 shortly before the break. The third period was expected to be a show, and it more than lived up to the hype.
In the final frame, Jamieson Rees gave the Sting a 3-2 lead. After a mad scramble in front of the Guelph crease, Rees pounced on a rebound created by linemate Jordan Ernst. Rees sent the puck past the sprawling Storm goaltender, and it was a whole new game.
Just because it was one of those nights, Guelph tied the game at 3-3 to force overtime. With bonus hockey at hand, Ruzicka was ready to cap the show.
Ruzicka hopped on the ice off a 3-on-3 line change, caught a pass from Sting defenceman Theo Calvas, and fired home the game-winning goal.
