Erie at Sarnia Game Preview – January 9
Join us back at home tonight as the Sting take on the Erie Otters. Puck drop is set for 7:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The Sting are coming off a hard-fought battle against the Flint Firebirds Wednesday night. Despite an intense game with a successful powerplay, the Sting lost 4-7.
The power play is a key aspect of the Sting’s game, which was evident Wednesday night, where two goals were scored with the man advantage. Sarnia’s second goal of the game was scored by Jordan Bax on the power play, assisted by Mitch Young.
Young was injured in the first game of the regular season, and didn’t return until mid October. On how his game has progressed with his recovery, the 20-year-old defenceman said, “I was hurt to start the year… but I’m feeling better now, getting it going and points are coming”.
In early December amidst leadership changes, Young was appointed as an assistant captain, alongside Hughston Hurt and Beckham Edwards. When asked about his leadership roles with the team, he said, “I try to lead by example for the younger guys. I know when I was young I really looked up to the older guys, they were a really big influence for me”.
After losing their last two, the Sting are looking for a win to start off their weekend of two home games. Young says the effort is there, and that they “need to just stay in Turcotte’s structure, when we stick to it, it’s really good hockey to watch”.
Easton Walos is a player to look out for tonight, as he is leading the team in goals, points and assists as of Wednesday’s game. The 17-year old is at 14 goals and 16 assists on the season so far
Puck drop for the first of this weekend’s two games is at 7:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
