Brampton vs Sarnia Game Preview – November 7
Tonight, the Sarnia Sting will face off against the Brampton Steelheads for the first time this season. Puck drop is 7:05 PM at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The Sting are buzzing from their dominant 6-4 win over the Owen Sound Attack in the school-day game on Wednesday. The arena was filled with over 3100 young students whose electric energy motivated the team. The Sting definitely gave the kids something to cheer for.
Much like Sarnia, the Steelheads are a young team comprised heavily of first-year veterans, making for an energetic matchup. One of Sarnia’s younger players, Easton Walos, who is in his first year in the league, has been a key player for the team. Walos, who has 12 points on the season, scored two goals and two assists on Wednesday’s game, earning the first star. The young left-shooting center plays an aggressive net-forward game, which will be crucial in tonight’s game. Despite his young age, Walos is a forward who excels in all zones as a versatile player.
On the other end of the roster is veteran Jack Van Volsen, the player to Bee Aware for tonight. The 19-year-old center was traded this past offseason to the Sting from the Steelheads, making tonight an interesting tilt for Van Volsen. He described his transition to Sarnia as “smooth sailing” so far, and as a now seasoned player, shares what he’s learned over the years. He said, “We have a lot of first and second year guys, so I try to be there for them and help out with what I can”. JVV is in his fourth season in the league, excelling with Sarnia on the power play with 11 points so far. His strong on-ice presence and size will be useful tonight in outplaying and overcoming his former team.
Tonight’s game will be a showcase of young talent paired with veteran leadership. The matchup on home ice will begin at 7:05 PM.
