67’s Double Up on Sting 6-3 in Sunday afternoon Clash
Today makes it the second consecutive Sunday matinee at The Hive where the Sting find themselves in action. This time around it was the visiting Ottawa 67’s, fresh off a win in Flint against the Firebirds last night where they won 4-2. The Sting come in to this game fresh off a loss to the Mississauga Steelheads on Friday night where they lost by a final of 6-2, where seemingly nothing went their way. Sarnia will be shorthanded today as they’ll be without captain Ryan McGregor; who is out with an injury sustained in Friday night’s contest.
The scoring would come quick and often in the 1st period, with Ottawa finding the back of the net first 2:57 into the game. Joseph Garreffa got the goal on a partial breakaway on the first shot of the game for either team to put the 67’s ahead early. Mitchell Hoelscher made it 2-0 a few minutes later as the 67’s found themselves on a two on one break.
Just past the halfway point of the 1st the Sting got their first powerplay opportunity of the game. The powerplay has been struggling to find the back of the net as of late, but the boys have definitely been generating grade ‘A’ chances. The powerplay would breakthrough tonight with a laser from the point off the stick of Sean Josling. Josling’s 19th of the season would be assisted by Jamieson Rees, therefore extending his point streak to 13 games.

Ottawa would be quick to answer back though, as 41 seconds later Marco Rossi put one by Jordan Kooy to extend the 67’s lead to 3-1. Kelton Hatcher blew a tire as the last man back for the Sting which allowed Rossi to walk in all alone against Kooy.
As we head into the 2nd frame Sarnia was hoping to carry over some momentum from the end of the 1st, which saw them control play in the Ottawa zone having several great chances to get back into the game. Unfortunately, 37 seconds in Joseph Garreffa scored his 2nd of the game off a great pass from Marco Rossi and just like that; it was a 4-1 67’s lead.
The Sting would get plenty of chances throughout the duration of the 2nd frame, but 67’s goaltender Cedrick Andree would shut the door; up until the 17:05 mark of the frame that is. Jacob Perreault roofed his 7th of the season from a difficult angle on the powerplay to cut the 67’s lead in half.

Perreault would score against just 1:17 later off a rebound of a great individual effort by Jamieson Rees, and just like that the Sting found themselves within a goal as the 2nd was coming to a close.

Sarnia couldn’t escape the period trailing by just one unfortunately, as Marco Rossi scored his 2nd of the evening with just 2.5 seconds left in the period.
The 3rd began with another quick 67’s goal, which seemed to be the theme at the start of each period in this one, as Adam Varga scored his first goal as a 67. After getting to within a goal, the Sting found themselves in a three goal hole as the 3rd is just getting underway.
There wasn’t many chances for Sarnia to claw back into this one as Ottawa played a great shutdown game in the 3rd, holding the Sting to only two shots.
It’s been a while since the Sting have suffered back to back losses, but as they say you just can’t win ’em all. The Sting fall back to .500 on the season, now sitting with a 10-10 record. Sarnia will look to bounce back Wednesday back on home ice at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena against the Flint Firebirds.
