As tradition has it, when the Sarnia Sting score their first goal the fans respond by tossing their stuffed toys on the ice. The toys are gathered from the ice and then transported to Lambton Ford to go on display until they make their way to their new homes.
Lambton Ford President, Rob Ravensberg comments “Our organization is very proud to see the 20th edition of the Sarnia Sting Teddy Bear Toss and we would like to thank the members of the Sarnia-Lambton community who, with their support and donations have made it the event it is. It is an honour as a partner of the Sting to be able to put on such a great event that gives to those less fortunate in our community around the holiday season. We are looking forward to what hopes to be a record game!”
Since its’ inception, this event has generated over 55,000 stuffed animals, all divided among the following local charities: Salvation Army, Pathways Children’s Treatment Centre, Inn of the Good Sheppard, Sarnia Kinsmen, Local 663, Women’s Pregnancy Crisis Centre, The Women’s Interval Home, Operation Christmas Tree, Harmony for Youth, Victim Services. Bluewater Health and St. Joseph’s Hospice. In 2015, a record high 3,785 stuffed toys were collected and disbursed before the holidays.
In 19 Teddy Bear Toss contests, the Sting hold a record of 13-2-5-1 and have been victorious 7 times in the last 8 years.
