BRAMPTON, ON<\/b> – The Brampton Steelheads announced the signing of their fifth round pick in this year’s 2026 OHL Priority Selection, John Montanino, to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Selected 84th overall, the 6-foot-1, 201-pound defenceman is a product of the Little Caesars U15 AAA.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The Sarnia, Ontario native enjoyed a strong 2025-26 campaign with Little Caesars U15 AAA, recording 5 goals and 10 assists in 15 regular season games. A smart, dependable defenceman, Montanino excels in his own zone and uses his combination of size, strength, and skating ability to his advantage at both ends of the ice.<\/span><\/p>\n

Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond commented after signing Montanino, \u201cJohn is a big, puck-moving defenceman that can move up and down the ice very well. He competes at a high level, which makes him hard to play against in the D-Zone. We look forward to seeing John in the blue and white.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Steelheads take Finnish goaltender Oskari Ahmajarvi and Russian forward Stepan Kuryachenkov <\/em><\/p>\n

BRAMPTON, ON \u2013 The Brampton Steelheads added two highly regarded international prospects to the organization on Wednesday during the 2026 CHL Import Draft, selecting Finnish goaltender Oskari Ahmajarvi with the seventh overall pick and Russian forward Stepan Kuryachenkov with the 68th overall selection.<\/p>\n

Ahmajarvi, a 6-foot, 181-pound goaltender from Nurmij\u00e4rvi Finland, was selected seventh overall after an impressive 2025-26 campaign with Kiekko-Espoo U20 where he posted a 2.34 GAA and .910 SV%. The 2008-born netminder has represented Finland on the international stage on multiple occasions, competing at both the 2026 IIHF U18 World Championship and the 2024 World U17 Hockey Challenge.<\/p>\n

Kuryachenkov, a 6-foot, 165-pound forward from Ufa, Russia, was selected 68th overall after recording 28 points (12G, 16A) as a 16-year-old with the Swift Current Broncos last season. BRAMPTON, ON \u2013 The Brampton Steelheads announced the signing of their third-round pick in this year\u2019s 2026 OHL Priority Selection, Neilan Johnson to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement.<\/p>\n

Johnson, a native of Severna Park, Maryland, became the first goaltender selected by the Brampton Steelheads in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection when the club chose him 51st overall in the third round. The 6-foot-3, 181-pound netminder was the fifth goaltender taken in the draft after an impressive season with Hotchkiss School in the USHS-Prep league, where he posted a 1.63 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage in 26 appearances.<\/p>\n

Director of Goaltending, David Shantz, had this to say about Neilan, \u201cNeilan is a big, athletic goalie who has the ability to be a difference maker for our organization. BRAMPTON, ON \u2013 The Brampton Steelheads announced the signing of their first second-round pick in this year\u2019s 2026 OHL Priority Selection, Arjun Nanubhai to an Signed to an OHL Scholarship and Development Agreement. Selected 28th overall, the 5-foot-10, 163-pound centreman is a product of the Mississauga Senators.<\/p>\n

The Oakville native starred with the Mississauga Senators U16 AAA program during the 2025-26 season, recording 22 goals and 25 assists for 47 points in 32 regular season games. A dynamic centreman known for his explosive skating and offensive creativity, Nanubhai was regarded as one of the top prospects in the 2026 OHL Draft class.<\/p>\n

Nanubhai spoke after being drafted by the team. \u201cIt\u2019s an honour to go to the Steelheads. I\u2019m ready to get to work. It\u2019s been a goal of mine since I was a kid and it\u2019s special to celebrate this with my family.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brampton Steelheads Announce full 2026-27 regular season schedule, highlighted by enhanced promotions and key matchups and OHL\u2019s Seaway Shootout<\/em><\/p>\n

BRAMPTON, ON \u2013 The Brampton Steelheads, in conjunction with the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), are proud to announce their full 2026-27 regular season schedule. Fans can look forward to another exciting season of Steelheads hockey, highlighted by an expanded promotional calendar, fan-favourite theme nights, community initiatives, and the Seaway Shootout.<\/p>\n

The Steelheads will begin the 2026-27 campaign with a pair of games on opening weekend, starting with their season opener at home against the Oshawa Generals on Friday September 18 at 7:00 p.m. before heading on the road against the Niagara IceDogs on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The Steelheads will also participate in the inaugural Seaway Shootout, a special Ontario Hockey League event taking place in Cornwall, Ontario Friday, October 16 and Saturday October 17. The unique showcase will feature the Steelheads alongside the Kingston Frontenacs and Ottawa 67\u2019s, bringing OHL action back to the Seaway Valley in a celebration of hockey along the Highway 401 corridor. The event will provide fans with a one-of-a-kind atmosphere and a unique opportunity to take in a signature OHL event.<\/p>\n
