Eerie Evening
The Brampton Steelheads (20-19-8-0) kick off their weekend on Friday night when they play host to the Erie Otters (24-19-3-1). It will be the fourth and final matchup between clubs this season. Through the first three games, the Trout trail the series 1-2 with one of the losses coming in overtime. The Steelheads will look to finish the season on a high note.
Brampton will look to flex their depth on the blueline in order to win the game, and one of the most likely candidates to step up is Spencer Sova. The Windsor native was drafted by the Otters with the eighth overall pick in the 2020 OHL draft. Sova spent his first three seasons in the OHL with the club where he racked up just shy of 100 points. It will be the last time that Sova will get to play against his former team, so he will be playing with some extra emotion.
The Steelheads will need to slow down the Otters’ top line of Malcolm Spence, Pano Fimis, and Sam Alfano. The trio recorded a stellar 19 points (10G 9A) throughout the first three matchups of the series. With Spence’s battling, Fimis’ playmaking, and Alfano’s power the line has a balance that is hard to disrupt. If the Steelheads can shut them down, they will have a much easier path to victory.

Faceoff with the Fronts
The Steelheads have no time to waste, as on Saturday they return to the CAA Centre to host the Kingston Frontenacs (28-12-5-2). It will be the third out of four matchups with Kingston this season. The Fronts have given Brampton trouble so far in the series, winning both games in Kingston. The Steelheads will look to flip the series back in their favour with the final two matchups coming on home ice. Before the game, Brampton will proudly welcome 50 new immigrants to the community in what will be the largest Canadian citizenship ceremony ever hosted by an OHL team.
After being officially sworn in, Canada’s newest citizens will take to the ice at 4 p.m. to sing O Canada and kick off the game. As honoured guests of the Brampton Steelheads, they’ll also stay to enjoy the game and celebrate this milestone moment.
This will be the first time the Steelheads get to test the Frontenacs at full strength. Throughout the first two matchups of the series, the Trout have been without key players like Porter Martone in the first matchup, and a collection of stars in Carson Rehkopf, Jakub Fibigr, Adam Zidlicky, Jack Ivankovic, as well as Martone for the second contest who were representing their countries at the world juniors. With their stars slated to be in the lineup this weekend, the Steelheads will look to make it a much more even affair.
On the flip side, the Frontenacs will be sporting an improved roster since the last time the teams met. At the deadline, Kingston made some big splashes when they acquired Joey Willis, Ethan Hay, and Will Bishop from Saginaw, as well as Charlie Schenkel from Sault Ste. Marie. These moves in combination with their existing offensive firepower headlined by Jacob Battaglia have helped the club climb to first place in the East Division.
