Home Opener
Following an exciting offseason, which saw 4 returning Steelheads get drafted to the NHL, as well as the additions of Carson Rehkopf and Spencer Sova, the Trout found themselves 2nd on the CHL’s preseason power rankings.
On a busy night around the OHL, the Steelheads play host to the Brantford Bulldogs in their first game at their new home, CAA Centre. It is shaping up to be a battle of the Titans as both the Trout and the Bulldogs were featured in the top 5 of the OHL’s preseason rankings. Brampton and Brantford faced off six times last season where the Steelheads were victorious in four, including the final three games of the season series. Brampton finished 4th last season in the Eastern Conference, a point behind the Bulldogs, who placed 3rd. Both teams fell in the first round of the playoffs, but after strong offseasons and internal growth, they look to contend for the J. Ross Robertson Cup.
The Steelheads had multiple players who performed well against Brantford in last year’s season series, notably Mason Zebeski. Zebeski tallied 4 goals and 2 assists in 4 games played against the Bulldogs. The 6’1” winger enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, jumping from 11 points the year prior up to 35 points in 11 less games this past season, earning him a spot at the Minnesota Wild training camp.

Future stars face off
On the second night of the opening weekend the Steelheads travel south to the face off against the Erie Otters. The Trout had a flawless 4-0 record against the Otters last season, where the Steelheads offense dominated, outscoring Erie 23-6.
The matchup is one to keep an eye on for the upcoming NHL entry draft, as it features three of the top four ranked OHL skaters from TSN’s early rankings in Porter Martone (Brampton), Matthew Schaefer (Erie), and Malcolm Spence (Erie). Both Martone and Schaefer enter the season as the highest-rated prospects at their positions and look to battle for the first overall selection.
