BRAMPTON, ON – The Brampton Steelheads announced the signing of their second-round pick in this year’s 2025 OHL Priority Selection, Lucas Johnson. Selected 39th overall, the 6-foot netminder is product of the Chicago Reapers.
The Chicago, Illinois native was the first goalie selected in the draft. Johnson won 28 of his 34 games played while sporting a .916 save percentage and a 1.76 goals against average this past season. This marks the third time in four years the Steelheads selected the first goalie in the draft. In 2022 goaltender Ryerson Leenders was taken in the second round, and in 2023 Jack Ivankovic was drafted in the first round at 7th overall.
Head Coach and General Manager James Richmond commented on the signing “We are pleased to welcome Lucas and his family to the Steelheads family. Lucas is a winner. He gives the guys in front of him a chance to win every game. We look forward to seeing Lucas in the Blue and White very soon.”
