Steelheads Kick Off Day 1 of Training Camp with Annual Blue vs White Game
BRAMPTON, Aug. 26, 2024- Today, the Brampton Steelheads kicked off their preseason with the first day of Training Camp.
With over 40 prospects in attendance, the Steelheads saw a day filled with on and off-ice activities which tested their strength and abilities. The boys finished off day one with the Blue vs. White game, where season ticket holders saw first-hand what this year’s Steelheads had to offer.
The White Team established their dominance early on, scoring three goals in the first period. Gabriel Chiarot opened up the scoring after receiving a one-time pass from Kieran Witkowski, but Chariot wasn’t done there. He scored the White Team’s second goal later in the period after he deeked through the Blue’s defence and shot it five-hole.
The White Team’s scoring streak didn’t end there as another five-hole goal was scored later in the first by Manuel Amado and was soon followed by goal number four in the second after a bad deflection left Tyler Grbavac with an empty net to shoot into.
Despite the 4-0 lead, the Blue Team did not give up and quickly began their comeback after Colton Woods scored a beautiful over-the-shoulder goal from the left faceoff circle. While the Blue Team gained momentum, the white team jumped back into action and scored two more goals to end the period.
Chiarot scored his third goal of the game after he caught the pass from Finn Harding, who had made a great play on his way out of the penalty box. Jack Von Volsen got the final goal for the White Team, and of the period after, he tapped in an air-bound puck over the shoulder of the Blue Team’s goalie.
Down 6-1, the Blue Team entered the third, determined to shake up the White Team’s lead. Team Blue went full-force on defence, combatting Team White’s offence, allowing them to keep the team’s lead at 6. The Blue Team added another point to the score after Angus MacDonell scored a top-corner goal.
Both teams gave it their all, ending day one of training camp with a final score of 6-2 and new goals for tomorrow’s game.
