Steelheads fall to the Storm in First Preseason Game
BRAMPTON, Sept. 1, 2024- The Brampton Steelheads start their preseason in an intense matchup against the Guelph Storm.
The Steelheads came out hard in the first period and immediately sent the Storm on the defence. Ben Lalkin opened the scoring early with a beautiful wrap-around goal, making it a quick 1-0 lead for the Steelheads.
Soon after the goal, things got heated between the Steelheads and Storm, leading to two misconduct calls and a penalty kill for Brampton. With an extra attacker on the ice, Guelph was able to even up the score, making it a tie game.
The 1-1 score didn’t last long as Guelph received a boarding penalty, giving the Steelheads the power play. Finn Harding brought the Steelheads to 2 after a quick play from Ben Lalkin and Parker Von Richter set him up for a blue-line goal.
After 20 minutes of play, Brampton closed the first period with a 2-1 lead over Guelph.
Soon after, the second period was underway, and the Steelheads found themselves back on the penalty kill following another misconduct call. Yet, being down a player did not stop the team, as Luke Misa scored a short-handed goal following a misdirect from Guelph, which led to a 2-on-1 play.
The 3-1 lead did not last long for the Steelheads, as the Storm added two more goals to the score following some bad bounces and another Brampton penalty kill. The second period ended with a tied game, leading to a fierce third-period battle.
Guelph came out strong in the third, leading to 3 early goals in the first half of the period. Yet the Steelheads did not give up there, as Gabriel Chiarot scored Brampton’s fourth and final goal with a one-timer setup from Lucas Karmiris.
After a game filled with intense battles, penalty kills and being down two defensemen due to game misconducts, the Brampton Steelheads fell to the Guelph Storm, 4-6.
The Brampton Steelheads look to clench their first preseason win on Friday, September 6, against the Kitchener Rangers.
