STEELHEADS DEFENCEMAN KONNOR SMITH SIGNS WITH ANAHEIM DUCKS
BRAMPTON, ON – The Anaheim Ducks announced yesterday that they have signed defenceman Konnor Smith to a three- year entry-level contract. Smith was drafted in the 4th round (97th overall) by the Ducks in the 2023 NHL Draft.
Originally drafted by the Peterborough Petes in the ninth round (#175 overall) of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection, Smith spent just over three seasons with Petes, totaling 35 points (14G, 21A) in 145 games. Smith also captured the OHL Championship during the 2022-23 season, skating in 23 playoff games amidst the hunt for the Ross Robertson Cup. The 6-foot-6, 216-pound native of Windsor, Ontario, was then traded to Owen Sound ahead of the 2024 OHL trade deadline. The defenseman skated in a total of 42 games for the Attack, totaling 17 points (6G, 11A) and served as the team’s captain before being traded to the Brampton Steelheads on January 8th. Smith played in 32 regular season games for the Steelheads registering 18 points (6G, 12A) and added 3 points (1G,2A) in six games during the postseason.
