Steelheads Announce Changes to Hockey Operations
The Mississauga Steelheads are pleased to announce the following changes within the hockey operations department:
Ryan Daniels has been promoted from within to become the full-time goaltending coach, replacing Kory Cooper. Daniels served in various capacities over the past season with the Steelheads, including the development of the team’s goaltenders. Ryan is a five-year alumni of the Ontario Hockey League, having played in Saginaw (2004 – 2008) & Peterborough (2008 – 2009). Daniels, a 5th Round NHL selection of the Ottawa Senators in 2006, previously served as the assistant general manager and goaltending coach of the Toronto Patriots of the OJHL, prior to joining the Steelheads.
“Ryan has proven to be a capable coach, who quickly earned the respect of all players, which will provide for a seamless transition to head the team’s goaltending department” explained general manager James Boyd.
The Steelheads also announced that Jan Egert, the team’s current assistant general manager, will assume the head scout duties, and oversee the Steelheads scouting department moving forward. Egert re-joined the Steelheads last offseason, after spending two years at the National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Department.
Joining Egert’s scouting staff for the 2016 – 17 season are Jerrett DeFazio & Marty Hogan.
DeFazio played three seasons with the Ottawa 67’s from 1988 – 1991 & continued to play throughout his post-secondary education for the Saint Mary’s Huskies, while completing his degree. DeFazio boasts international experience as well, playing pro in Europe and in the Detroit Red Wings organization. DeFazio will be responsible for scouting in Eastern Ontario & the Ottawa region.
Hogan joins the Steelheads after spending 2011 to 2016 with the Niagara IceDogs. In addition to his scouting experience, Hogan, a Windsor, ON native, has an extensive minor hockey coaching background, ranging from peewee to bantam, high school and Junior ‘C’. Hogan will be responsible for scouting in the United States and is based out of Chicago, Ill.
The Steelheads would like to congratulate Ryan and Jan on their new roles, and welcome Jerrett and Marty to the organization.
