Starting Line Stars- Steelheads win 4-1 over Colts
BARRIE, ON- The Brampton Steelheads’ starting lineup fired up the second period, leading to a 4-1 victory over the Barrie Colts.
The Steelhead’s starting lineup showed they are a force to be reckoned with after Porter Martone and Angus MacDonell walked away from the game with two goals each. Carson Rehkopf, who completes the trio, assisted on three of the four goals scored, while Spencer Sova and Finn Harding also added assists to the goals.
While the Steelheads all showed their offensive capabilities, Martone’s second-period goal shifted the game’s momentum and led to a flurry of goals from the Trout.
The first period saw a lot of back and forth between the Colts and Steelheads as both teams held strong offensive and defensive fronts. Yet, the Steelheads led the shots in period one, 15-7 and had a huge scoring opportunity from Mason Zebeski on their first power play.
Despite some dangerous shots, the goalies ran the period, as Jack Ivankovic and Sam Hillebrandt made some big stops, keeping the score tied at zero.
The start of the second appeared to be a repeat of the first, with no goals and numerous chances, but Martone quickly changed the game by scoring the night’s first goal. After receiving a pass from Harding in the neutral zone, Rehkopf made a risky blue-line pass to Martone, who scored a beautiful bar-down goal from the left faceoff dot.
Martone’s point streak continued a few seconds later when he set MacDonell up for a one-timer goal, making it a 2-0 game. With only a minute left in the second, Rehkopf sent a pass up from the corner to Martone at the point, who also one-timed it past Hillebrandt.
After an excited close to the second, the third period started with a bang. The Steelheads were sent on the power play after the Colts were called for tripping.
With the man advantage, the trout took control of the offensive zone and added another point to the board. Sova gained control of the puck at the blue line and took a wicked shot, which MacDonell tipped into the net.
Despite being down 4-0, the Colts did not give up the fight and pushed hard to finish the game. After being put on the power play following a slashing call on Brampton’s Gabriel Chiarot, the Colts took advantage of the extra player and scored their only goal.
Emil Hemming scored his first goal of the season after a pass from Cole Beaudoin at the blue line set him up to deke around the defence and backhand it into the goal.
After three battle-filled periods, the Steelheads finished the game with a 4-1 victory over the Colts.
