SmartStop Post Game Recap – Steelheads Late Rally Falls Short on MS Canada & Billet Appreciation Night
BRAMPTON, ON – On Friday night, the Brampton Steelheads hosted their Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Night in support of those affected by MS, raising awareness for ongoing research and resources. This night symbolized hope, support, and strength–both on and off the ice.
The pre-game ceremony saw the Steelheads honour this season’s billet families with flowers from their respective players.
About halfway through the first period, the Steelheads were dealt a penalty and headed to the kill. Ottawa struck first making it 1-0.
The Steelheads trailed 2-0 after the first due to Ottawa’s final minute goal.
Early into the second period, Ottawa struck again to make it 3-0 for the 67’s.
The Trout’s offensive pressure ramped up with a visible increase in their forechecking and puck-retrieval.
Brampton would be rewarded with a powerplay on a roughing penalty call. They created some high-danger chances with some good puck movement between Keaton Ardagh and Julian Demiglio with Peter Green quarter-backing once again.
Late in the period, Bowen stopped an Ottawa player off on a breakaway to keep the game within reach for the Trout. Tensions were high towards the end of the second frame as Brampton headed back on the powerplay.
About five minutes into their third frame, the Steelheads got another powerplay opportunity on an interference call.
With momentum on their side, Matej Stankoven skated down the ice and scored his seventh goal of the year to make it 3-1. Justin Bottineau assisted on the goal marking his 50th career OHL point.
Ottawa responded on the powerplay with a goal to extend their lead to 4-1. They added an empty-netter to make the final score 5-1.
