SmartStop Post Game Recap – Steelheads Fall 7-1 in Peterborough
PETERBOROUGH, ON – The Brampton Steelheads returned to the Peterborough Memorial Centre for their second visit of the season, but the Petes controlled the night in a 7–1 win. Former Pete Zach Bowen started for Brampton looking for his ninth win, while Peterborough countered with Easton Rye and his 11 victories.
Peterborough set the tone immediately, generating early pressure and chances before Adam Novotný opened the scoring at 8:30 with his 12th of the season. Moments later, a penalty for Brampton was the catalyst for Aiden Young to score just three seconds into the power play for a 2–0 lead.
The Steelheads answered quickly on their own power play after Brody Partridge was penalized when Jakub Fibigr blasted home a one-timer at 12 seconds, assisted by Parker Von Richter.
Late in the period, Brennan Faulkner finished a feed from Braydon McCallum and Young, sending Brampton to the intermission down 3–1.
Brampton switched to Luke Johnson to start the second after Bowen faced 11 shots. Johnson was sharp early, and Brampton’s best push came around 7:30 with rapid-fire chances from Reed Gee, Joshua Avery, Von Richter, Mason Zebeski and Troy Patton, but Rye stood tall.
Peterborough scored again 45 seconds into the third when Kaden McGregor buried a rebound from Novotný and Lutz to make it 4–1.
Brampton, outshot 23–21 at the six-minute mark, continued to press but the Petes extended the lead at 5:05 when McCallum scored from Faulkner and Adam Levac. Brampton had a power play after Genc Ula was penalized for throwing the stick but could not capitalize. Levac then scored on a breakaway to make it 6–1, and Matthew Soto redirected a Matthew Perreault shot at 13:08 for a 7–1 final. Brampton pushed late, crowding the crease with six players, but could not get past Rye.
