SmartStop Post Game Recap – HHOF: On the Road at the CAA Centre for Christmas Game Ends in 4-2 Loss to the Frontenacs
BRAMPTON, ON – Steelheads fans filled the CAA Centre with holiday cheer as they came together to celebrate the magic of the season at today’s Christmas Game and to check out the HHOF: On the Road. The concourse transformed into a winter wonderland, complete with festive decorations, classic holiday music echoing throughout the arena, and a special visit from Santa Claus himself.
On the ice, the Brampton Steelheads faced off against the Kingston Frontenacs in a spirited holiday matchup.
Christmas came early for the Steelheads when Frontenacs’ forward Will Bishop was sent to the penalty box for holding just one minute into the period, giving Brampton an early power-play opportunity.
Despite many good looks and close shots on net, it was not until halfway through the period that Keaton Ardagh delivered a holiday gift to the fans by breaking the ice. Ardagh quickly gained control of the puck, carried it into the offensive zone, and buried it between the pipes unassisted to put the Steelheads on the board.
The Frontenacs responded late in the period. Ty Robar found the back of the net with just two minutes remaining, evening the score and closing out the period with the game tied 1-1.
The second period opened with back-to-back penalties – one to Reed Gee and another to the Frontenacs’ Nolan Buttar – resulting in extended 5-on-4 action. Despite power play opportunities for both teams, neither side was able to convert.
At 7:25, Landon Wright extended the Frontenacs’ lead. Then, seven minutes later, a bouncing puck slipped past goaltender Luke Johnson, making it 3-1 for the Frontenacs.
With five minutes remaining in the period, Gabriel Chiarot was assessed a penalty, sending the Steelheads to the penalty kill. The Frontenacs were unable to capitalize, thanks to a strong defensive effort and several quick, timely saves from Johnson.
The period featured moments of turbulence, but the Steelheads remained composed, continuing to push offensively while maintaining solid defensive structure to limit the Frontenacs’ chances.
Despite generating several quality looks, the Steelheads were unable to find the back of the net. The second period concluded with the Frontenacs holding a 3-1 lead.
The third period started off slowly, but the pace picked up around the seven-minute mark when Maleek McGowan of the Frontenacs scored. Shortly after, with tensions running high, a fight broke out on the ice, resulting in Ty Daniels and the Frontenacs’ Jacob Battaglia being thrown out of the game for misconduct, while Matthew Frost of the Frontenacs received a five-minute major penalty.
This led to a stretch of 4-on-4 action before play returned to even strength. With just one minute remaining in the game, Justin Bottineau added another goal to the Steelheads’ tally.
Despite the loss, the Steelheads battled hard throughout the game, and the Christmas cheer remained strong in the stands and on the ice.
From the team to all the fans, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! The Steelheads return home on December 29th to face off against the Niagara IceDogs.
