SmartStop Post-Game Recap – Family Day Fun
MISSISSAUGA, ON – The Mississauga Steelheads cruised past the Owen Sound Attack for a comfortable 5-1 win this Family Day at the PFFC.
The Steelheads (28-20-6-0) relied on timely goal scoring and a huge game from Jack Ivankovic to pick up a big two points on Monday. The Trout have points in their last six games and more than five goals per game in that span.
Captain Chas Sharpe had the game winner for the Steelheads, with Jack Van Volsen adding two tallies of his own. Dean Loukus and Lucas Karmiris also scored, and Ivankovic made 33 saves in the win.
The Attack (25-24-4-2) failed to match Mississauga’s play at five on five all game. Colby Barlow scored their only goal of the contest, and goaltender Carter George made 28 saves.
Ivankovic was the story of a scoreless first period, making 13 saves including multiple huge penalty kill stops.
Mississauga opened the scoring five minutes into the second period, when Loukus stole the puck in the neutral zone and sent Karmiris on a break, who wired it past George.
Sharpe doubled the lead soon after, with a power play wrist shot from the point that found its way through traffic and into the net for the eventual game winner.
The Attack cut the lead in half with their own power play marker at 18:41 of the second when Barlow took a cross ice pass and rifled a shot past Ivankovic for the captain’s 31st of the season.
The Steelheads regained their two goal lead early in the third courtesy of Loukus’ 16th, after he took a Karmiris pass wide and snapped a shot short side past George to make it 3-1.
Van Volsen made it 4-1 one minute later, when a wacky end-boards bounce careened off George and in after Van Volsen’s shot went wide initially.
Another Van Volsen marker made it 5-1 with eight minutes remaining. A beautiful Porter Martone saucer pass found JVV streaking to the net, and he roofed it over George for his 2nd of the game.
