Rough Day in the Office
Brampton, ON- The Brampton Steelheads fall, 4-0 in their School Day game against the Oshawa Generals after Jacob Oster’s shutout performance, making 36 saves.
With the Steelheads reigning victorious over the last two matchups between these teams, the Generals came out hot as they tried to change the momentum in the series. It was an Oshawa-dominated game as Oster had a shutout performance and Owen Griffin and Noah Powell each scored two goals to take home the 4-0 victory.
Starting from the first faceoff, the Generals established control, getting the icebreaker 16 seconds into the game. Colby Barlow kept the puck in at the blue line, and sent it down to Noah Powell. Having gotten behind the defence, Powell fired it on net, slipping it past Jack Ivankovic on the blocker side.
It was a high-intensity period, as big hits were thrown and the battles at both ends picked up. While the Trout had many chances against Jacob Oster, the Oshawa netminder held strong, and his teammates established a dominant offensive at the opposing end.
With their effort, the Generals extended their lead to two. Getting the puck down low in the corner, Brooks Rogowski found Owen Griffin out front. With Ivankovic covered off on the left, Griffin slipped it past him on the open left side. The remaining minutes of the period ran out, leading the Generals to take a two-goal lead into the second.
Unfortunately for the Trout, the second period took a similar route as the first. The Steelheads generated numerous offensive chances but Oster remained firm and did not allow any pucks to slip past him. Combining the strong goaltending with special teams in favour of the Generals, the period was in Oshawa’s hands.
The continued brewing tensions between teams in the first, overflowed in the second, leading to several penalties, special team advantages, and the eventual third General’s goal. A series of heated matchups resulted in Parker Von Richter getting a roughing penalty, which gave Oshawa a man-advantage for two minutes.
Setting up shop in the Steelheads’ end, Luca Marrelli sent a pass from the point down low to Barlow. Instead of taking the shot, Barlow found Griffin out front for the one-timer. The Generals continued their three-goal lead for the remainder of the second and into the third.
Like the rest of the game, the third period mirrored that of the first and second periods: overflowing tensions, and only one team scoring. The Trout had a few chances, but with the driving Oshawa offense allowing Powell to extend the lead to four, it was not their game to win.
The Steelheads look to return to the winning column on Friday as they face off against the North Bay Battalion for their Real Canadian Superstore game. For tickets, click here.
