Kingston Frontenacs Hold the Winning Deal against Brampton In Sunday Matchup.
BRAMPTON, ON – The Brampton Steelheads faced off against the Kingston Frontenacs on Sunday afternoon at the CAA Centre. Alongside the action on the ice, the Steelheads hosted a Trading Card Game Day, giving fans the chance to bring their collectible cards to buy, sell, and trade with local vendors.
This game marks James Richmond’s 600th regular season game as head coach of the Brampton Steelheads. Richmond began his deal with the team in 2015 as Assistant coach of the prior Mississauga Steelheads, before trading up to Head Coach during the 2016-2017 season.
The Sunday Afternoon matchup started off on a strong deal from both sides, eager to play their hands. The Frontenacs pull their first Ace early in the first period. Making the score 1-0 at 3 minutes 55 seconds. Peter Green of the Brampton Steelheads decides he’s not gonna take this, rebutting with a goal at the 9 minute mark, tying the game to end the first hand.
The second period called for a reshuffle from both sides, hoping to make the play that puts their team on top. The Frontenacs attack first, bringing the score up 2-1 for the Frontenacs. The Steelheads look for a redemption hand, though the Frontenacs push another, bringing the score to 3-0. With 12 minutes left in the second period, once again, the Frontenacs #14 Trumps the trout, making the score 4-1.
The final hand led off with lots of energy from both the teams. The Steelheads picked up on both offensive and defensive pressure, with an honorary mention to goalie Zach Bowen, who made an incredible save early in the third. The Steelheads continued the third with a strong front, but ultimately fell short to the Kingston Frontenacs.
The Steelheads will face off against the Sudbury Wolves on March 17th at the CAA Centre for their March Break Game, inviting students from Brampton and beyond to enjoy a day of hockey during their vacation.
