Whalers tie series with 3-2 victory
(Plymouth, MI) The Plymouth Whalers took advantage of the home ice Tuesday night, beating the Windsor Spitfires 3-2 and tying the best of seven series 2-2. Forwards Dale Mitchell and Eric Wellwood scored the Spitfires goals.
The Whalers opened the scoring at the 53 second mark of the second period with Chris Terry scoring his 7th goal of the playoffs, a powerplay goal. Forward Matt Caria made it 2-0 with his 7th goal of the playoffs at the 6:51 mark. The Spitfires responded with just two seconds remaining in the period with Dale Mitchell scoring his 10th goal of the playoffs. The lone assist was awarded to Rob Kwiet.
Forward Eric Wellwood tied the score at the 13:16 mark of the third period with his 5th goal of the playoffs. The lone assist was awarded to Dale Mitchell. The Whales took the lead again at the 15:34 mark with Hayes scoring his 4th goal of the playoffs. This goal would prove to be the game winner as the Whalers held off the Spitfires’ attack and evened the series.
The Spitfires host the Whalers on Thursday April 9, game time is 7:05 pm.
