Spitfires Fall 5-4 to Flint in Preseason Action
WINDSOR, ON.
The Spitfires started another fairly new lineup in their second preseason game in Flint on Sunday afternoon. The game started on a bad note the same as last night as they gave up the games first two goals and in a hole 2-0 just over 5 minutes into the game. Just before the halfway point of the period the Spitfires struck back. Stewart scored his first goal of the preseason from Abraham which cut the lead in half. Just over 3 minutes later, the Spitfires would tie the game at 2. Lavigne got the puck to Peer and he passed it to Abraham who scored his 2nd of the preseason. With under two minutes to play in the period, Maillet would score his first of the preseason in his first game and make it 3-2 Spitfires. The shots were 16-8 in favour of the Spitfires after 20 minutes.
In the second period, the Spitfires would switch goalies to Ian Michelone halfway through the period. The Spitfires had a powerplay chance but nothing materialized. In the final 5 minutes of the frame, the Firebirds would score twice to take a 4-3 lead. Shots were 20-19 after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Firebirds had a little lapse of concentration and took 2 penalties sending the Spitfires to a 5 on 3 powerplay. The Spitfires would make no mistake as Abraham scored his 2nd of the game to tie it at four a piece with 11 minutes to play. With under 5 minutes to play the Firebirds would score on a powerplay to make it 5-4. The Spitfires were penalized late and couldn’t find the equalizer and ultimately falling 5-4.
The Spitfires are back in action on the road in Sarnia on September 20th. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm.
