Loktionov named Spitfires player of the week
(Windsor) Spitfires centre Andrei Loktionov is the Windsor Spitfires Player of the Week as selected by the team’s coaching staff for the week ending Sunday, April 5th. Loktionov scored four goals and registered five assists for nine points as well as a plus-5 plus-minus rating in three games played last week, leading the Spitfires to a 2-1 series lead in the best of seven Western Conference semi-final series against the Plymouth Whalers.
On Thursday, Loktionov recorded one assist in Windsor’s 6-3 loss to Plymouth. On Saturday, he exploded for two goals and three assists, and was named the second star in the Spitfires 8-2 victory over the Whalers. Last night, he scored two goals and one assist en route to being named the second star of Windsor’s 8-1 win over Plymouth.
The 18 year-old Voskresensk, Russia native was selected by the Spitfires with the seventh overall pick in the 2008 CHL Import Draft and he was also drafted by the NHL’s Los Angeles Kings in the fifth round at the 2008 NHL Entry Draft in Ottawa, Ontario. Loktionov is currently leading the OHL’s playoff scoring race with 4 goals and 13 assists for 17 points and a plus-7 plus-minus rating in seven games.
The Spitfires will travel to Compuware Arena tomorrow, to play game four of the best of seven series against the Whalers. Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. Fans can watch the game on TVCOGECO (Cable 11) or follow the action on AM800 with play-by-play announcer Mike Miller.
