Spitfires Lose to Storm 5-1
WINDSOR, ON.
The Spitfires took on the Guelph Storm to kick-start the weekend with three games in four days. The Spitfires were looking to get back into the win column after a string of losses meanwhile the Storm were trying to find their form as they dropped 3 of their last 5 games. So far this season, the Spitfires have had the Storm’s number with a 2-1 record with wins 3-0 and 8-7. Tonight would be a different story as the Storm would solve the Spitfires and win 5-1.
In the first period, the Spitfires got into a bit of penalty trouble which contributed to the lopsided shots by the Storm with 16 over the Spitfires 7 through twenty minutes. However, even a man down the Spitfires were able to break the deadlock. AJ Spellacy stole the puck off the Guelph defender and went down on a 2 on 1 and chose to keep it and sniped his 19th on the year. Just over four minutes later, the Storm would respond to tie the game at one. The Spitfires PK was a perfect 2/2 through the frame.
In the second period, the tides would turn badly for the Spitfires as the Storm would score two goals in a minute to take a 3-1 lead. With just five minutes left in the frame, the Storm scored again to take a 4-1 lead heading into the third period. The shots were 26-14 after 40 minutes.
In the third period, the Storm would add another and take this game by a score of 5-1.
The Spitfires will practice Friday before hitting the road on Saturday for a matchup in Flint followed by a Sunday afternoon affair with the Knights back home.
