In the first period, it was a game of streaks. The Knights would strike first off a turnover in the defensive zone as O’Reilly would score his 6th on the season. Just two minutes later, the Knights would strike again as Ryder Boulton found the back of the net. The Spits were down 2-0 just 7 minutes into this one. However, they battled back with a response on the powerplay. Peer got the puck to Dionicio and he played pitch and catch with Greentree before he walked in and sniped it short side. It was Greentree’s 9th goal on the season. Dionicio collected an assist on the play to extend his point streak to seven games. Just three minutes later, the Spitfires would get another goal on the powerplay. Maillet fed Davis behind the net and he would score on the wrap-around to tie the game at 2. Less than two minutes, defense would turn into offence as the Spitfires scored off the rush. Maillet banked the puck out of the Spitfires zone to the neutral ice where Greentree picked it up and went in over the Knight’s blue-line before feeding a speedy Abraham in front who tapped it in for a 3-2 Spitfires lead. The Knight’s had a narrow shot advantage of 10-8 after 20 minutes of play.
In the second period, it was a battle of special teams units. Just over a minute in, London would tie the game at 3 on 5 on 5. Just a minute later, the Spitfires would restore the lead on the powerplay. Peer fed Greentree back door and he scored his 2nd of the night. Less than two minutes later, Abraham would get his 2nd on the night after a rebound in front. Another 2 minutes later, there was some nifty work from Struthers and Smith behind the London net, they would center the puck to Spellacy and he scored to make it 6-3 Spitfires. Less than a minute later, London would respond to make it a 6-4 game. Trouble started to brew after this for the Spitfires, they were assessed a tripping minor and a cross checking major on the same play and were sent off for a long 5 on 3 penalty kill. The Knights would score three powerplay goals on the advantage and take a 7-6 lead heading into the third period.
In the third period, it was a back and forth battle looking for the games next goal. The Knights would score the next goal to take an 8-6 lead with over 11 minutes left to play. The Spitfires would score on the powerplay just a minute and half later. Christopoulos scored his 5th of the season from Peer and Abraham. The Knights would score the all important next goal to make it 9-7. They would add an empty netter to take this one, 10-7.
The Spitfires are back in action on Saturday in Saginaw, puck drop is scheduled for 7:05pm. The Spitfires return home on Sunday to face off against the Spirit again for a 4:05pm puck.
