Kitchener Rallies back to Beat Spitfires 6-3
WINDSOR, ON.
The Spitfires wrapped up a 3 game weekend stint on Saturday night as the Kitchener Rangers were in town for the final time this season.
In the first period, both teams played cautiously compared to the night previous where it was a run in gun type of offense. The Spitfires had a powerplay opportunity but were denied by Malboeuf and the Rangers were able to kill it off. Late in the period, the Rangers would score to go ahead 1-0 on a frantic play. The shots were 13-10 in favour of the Spitfires after one period.
In the second frame, it was a change of fortunes for the Spitfires. They only allowed 5 shots and Froggett stopped them all. With under 5 minutes to play, the Spitfires had an offensive zone draw that was won by the Rangers. Greentree stripped Andonovski of the puck and fed Cole Davis in front who score to tie the game at 1. It was Davis’s 8th on the year. Just three minutes later, the Spitfires powerplay cashed in as Davis broke in on the wing and went five-hole to give the Spitfires a 2-1 lead. It was his 2nd of the night and was assisted by Peer and Greentree.
In the third period, the Spitfires would start the frame on the powerplay as a scrum ensued at the end of the 2nd. On the powerplay, Greentree would score to put the Spitfires up 3-1. The next 18 minutes the wheels would fall off the Spitfires and they would give up 5 unanswered goals. The Rangers would take this one 6-3. Note, Sop had a hat-trick meanwhile Toms had to serve a 2 game suspension when they both dropped the mitts on Friday in Kitchener.
The Spitfires are on the road for the next two weeks. Windsor will head to Peterborough on Thursday for a 7:05pm puck drop followed by a visit to Kingston on Friday for a 7:00pm tilt and then an of day on Saturday before a matchup in the nations capital on Sunday.
