Spirit Fall To Attack In Shootout At Home
The Saginaw Spirit geared up to play the Owen Sound Attack at The Dow Event Center on Sunday evening.
The first period saw aggressive play from both teams but only one goal. Spirit center Jimmy Lodge sent a quick pass to Jeremiah Addison in front of the net and Addison buried the opportunity. Detroit Red Wings prospect and Spirit starting goalie Jake Paterson once again stole the show with a shutout first period.
The Attack would tie the score at one nearly five minutes into the second period. Seconds after they gained full strength, Assistant Captain Cameron Brace found the back of the net, with assists going to Jake Dotchin and Daniel Catenacci. Saginaw led Owen Sound in shots on goal 24-21 after two, and the score was tied at one.
Six minutes into the third period Attack winger Zach Nastasiuk scored with a wrist shot assisted by Gemel Smith and Keevin Cutting. Saginaw responded immediately when Nick Moutrey put the puck in the net to tie the score at two with assists from Eric Locke and Justin Kea. Seconds later, Spirit Captain and Florida Panthers prospect Vince Trocheck gave Saginaw the lead off a rebounded shot, assisted by Terry Trafford and Jason Shaw. Owen Sound retaliated and tied the score once more at three with a breakaway goal scored by Joseph Blandisi helped by Gemel smith and Zach Nastasiuk.
The game continued in overtime and when that wasn’t enough, a shootout determined the winner. Owen Sound Attack Assistant Captain Daniel Catenacci scored the only goal in the shootout, winning the game for the Attack.
