Saginaw Spirit Fall to London Knights in First Game of 2013
The Saginaw Spirit took on the London Knights on Friday night, falling on the road 8 – 2.
Both Western Conference teams came out strong in the opening period; however, the Knights were able to advance first with a power play goal by Max Domi, his 23rd of the season, with assists coming from Ryan Rupert and Alex Broadhurst. The first period ended London 1 – Saginaw 0.
The second period opened up with a Knight power play goal by Seth Griffith, his 26th of the season, with assists coming from Max Domi and Bo Horvat. The Knights continued the scoring throughout the period, scoring two more goals. The second goal of the frame was from Ryan Rupert, his 5th of the season, assisted by Matt Rupert and Bo Horvat. Following that tally the Knights recorded another goal off Josh Anderson’s stick, his 12th of the season, with assists coming from Brett Welychka and Dakota Mermis. The second period ended London 4 – Saginaw 0.
The Knights came out with a solid effort in the third, scoring two goals early, the first by Matt Rupert, his 19th of the season, with assists coming from Ryan Rupert and Nikita Zadorov. Less than a minute later Seth Griffith, his 27th of the season, assisted by Max Domi and Dakota Mermis. The Spirit then came back to score on a tally by Brandon Lindberg, his 5th of the season, with assists coming from Eric Locke and David Perklin. The Knights followed with two more goals, the first by Corey Pawley, with assists coming from Kyle Platzer and Remi Elie, followed by a power play goal from Seth Griffith, his 28th of the season and 3rd of the night, assisted by Max Domi and Nikita Zadorov. The Spirit closed out the scoring on an unassisted goal by Terry Trafford. The game ended London 8 – Saginaw 2, with the shots on goal London 36 – Saginaw 17.
