GILMOUR, COSKEY INCLUDED ON 2016 NHL CENTRAL SCOUTING FUTURES LIST
July 25, 2016
For Immediate Release:
SAGINAW, Mich. – The National Hockey League’s Central Scouting department released it’s 2016-17 NHL Futures List Saturday, featuring forwards Brady Gilmour and Cole Coskey heading into the 2017 NHL Draft.
Gilmour, 17, set the Ontario Hockey League circuit ablaze when he arrived on scene in 2015. The Spirit’s first overall pick in the 2015 Priority Selection led all OHL players with eight points during the preseason. He finished his rookie campaign second on the team in scoring amongst rookies with 23 points. Gilmour also reaped the benefits of extended playing time in the second half of the season. The Grafton, Ontario native hopes to represent Team Canada in the U-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup coming up in August.
Coskey, 17, started quickly out of the gates in the 2015 OHL Preseason as well, scoring three goals in four games. While production slowed during the regular season, Coskey gained valuable experience playing on a line with veteran OHL’ers Blake Clarke, Devon Paliani, and Mike Davies at different times during the campaign. The Zion, Illinois native was the Spirit’s third round pick in the 2015 Priority Selection Draft.
“The 2016 draft class lived up to all the hype regarding the exceptional talent available and the unpredictability of the order in which prospects would be taken,” NHL Director of Central Scouting Dan Marr said in an NHL.com release. “It’s anticipated that 2016-17 will again be a deep draft class for prospects, and there is a lot of depth at all positions.”
“The list is based on evaluations we made of the players during the 2015-16 season. A number of these players will be changing teams for 2016-17 and that will be reflected in our preliminary players to watch list in September.”
The Futures List consists of 148 North American players and 142 international players who NHL scouts will be watching during the 2016-17 season leading into the 2017 NHL Draft in Chicago.
