RANGERS SELECT FRANZEN IN CHL IMPORT DRAFT
Kitchener Rangers General Manager Murray Hiebert has announced that the team has selected Swedish forward Gustaf Franzén with its first round pick (4th overall) in the 2014 Canadian Hockey League Import Draft.
Franzén spent the majority of the 2013-14 season playing with the HV71 U20 SuperElit team, recording 11 goals and 13 assists in 39 games. He added six points in seven playoff games with the team before making his debut in the Swedish Hockey League, appearing in five games with HV71.
Franzén won a gold medal with Team Sweden at the 2013 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge, and captained the Swedes at the 2014 Under 18 World Championship earlier this year.
“We’re excited to add Gustaf to the Kitchener Rangers lineup,” said Hiebert. “We have been following him for the last two years and have always been impressed with his above-average hockey sense.”
