Kitchener Rangers and Saginaw Spirit announce trade
The Kitchener Rangers announced today they have traded left winger Mike Davies to the Saginaw Spirit. In exchange, the Rangers will receive the Spirit’s 2nd round pick (2018), 5th round pick (2018), and a conditional 5th round pick in the 2019 OHL Priority Selection.
Rangers General Manager Murray Hiebert says the move was not a decision he made lightly, as Davies is a player who was very well-liked among his teammates.
“Making deals like this is the toughest part of being a general manager. On the one hand, we felt that with the talent we have throughout our forward core this allowed us to make a move that would also help stabilize and sustain us with upcoming talent from the draft.
“Mike was a very big presence in our dressing room and he will be missed, but this will also give him an opportunity to get a little more ice time, as well.
“The Rangers organization would like to thank Mike for all he has done throughout his three seasons with the team and wish him all the best in his future hockey endeavors.”
Davies, a first round pick (13th overall) of the Rangers in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection, registered 18 goals and 17 assists for 35 points and 64 PIM in 136 career games played over parts of three seasons with Kitchener.
