Sun Life Financial presents $20,000.00 donation to Kids In Gear
On Friday, representatives from Sun Life Financial presented a cheque for $20,000.00 to support the Kids In Gear program during a special pre-game ceremony.
The Sun Life Financial Kids In Gear program assists with the collection and purchasing of hockey equipment as well as helps to offset the costs of registration for youth who require support in order to play our national pastime.
The $20,000.00 donated by Sun Life Financial to Kids In Gear on Friday was comprised by funds raised through the Rangers’ Warm-up Jersey Auction and the Rangers’ goal program in which $50 is donated for every Rangers goal scored on home ice.
The Sun Life Financial Kids In Gear program also receives contributions from multiple other endeavours over the course of the year, including the Hockey Equipment Donation Drive (beginning tonight at The Aud) and the Charity Drive Car Draw presented by the Forbes Automotive Family. As well, Heffner Toyota also graciously contributes $10 for every successful Rangers’ penalty kill which amounted to $2,180.00 last season.
This year’s Hockey Equipment Donation Drive began Friday at The Aud with members of the Rangers’ game staff accepting new and gently-used donations. The Hockey Equipment Donation Drive officially gets underway in the community on Monday, October 30th. For a list of donation outlets, click here.
Over the past six seasons, the Sun Life Financial Kids In Gear program has collected over $240,000.00, including more than $71,000.00 raised last year alone in addition to equipment collection for deserving families throughout our region.
The Sun Life Financial Kids in Gear Mask Design contest also gives hockey fans and children under 12-years-old a whole new way to be a part of the game. Working with renowned Toronto artist David Arrigo, one lucky entry will be brought to life and worn by a Rangers goalie during a 2017-18 regular season game.
