Summer Update: Donovan Sebrango
Summer goals aren’t necessarily something a 17-year-old kid thinks about. For most high-school students, summer is all about living in the moment and making the most of their time off from school—Donovan has other plans in mind.
“I have started going to the gym every day and making sure I get my strength up,” said Donovan. “My goal is to come into camp around 185 pounds and be ready to go. That is going to be my main focus this summer.”
Donovan’s passion for the game is evident through his actions. Sit down and talk with him for five minutes and you will see his drive and willingness to do anything he can to improve his game.
“It is all about gaining muscle,” smiled Donovan. “I think a mistake many people make is eating a lot to gain weight and get bigger, but I am focusing on gaining muscle while putting on weight. Getting my strength to the next level is so important for me.”
With that being said, Donovan still plans on making time for his family and friends. He knows the importance of taking a moment to step back from it all.
“I love to fish and golf. It is a peaceful getaway that helps me relax,” said Donovan. “It allows me to get my mind off things for the time being.”
Over the Easter weekend Donovan and his teammates, Reid Valade and Isaac Langdon participated in the Rangers’ annual Spring Camp. The weekend was an excellent opportunity for these young men to step up and lead the new prospects and free agents through what can be an exhausting yet rewarding camp.
“I had a lot of fun at spring camp,” said Donovan. “I tried to show the young guys to remember to play your game. When you’re holding your stick too tight, you tend to make bad plays. You have to come into every opportunity with confidence, and that will go a long way.”
Donovan had another familiar face at camp, that of his roommate and 2019 U-18 selection, Noah Prudhomme. Donovan and Noah are both from the Kingston area and even played on the same team while in minor hockey.
“I was really excited for him when I saw Noah was drafted by Kitchener in the U18 draft,” said Donovan. “I texted him saying welcome to Kitchener and told him what a great honour it is to play here. It is one of the best places you can be.”
Coming off his rookie season, Donovan knows this summer will be instrumental for his success next year.
“This summer I want to make sure I am ready to be the best I can be next season. It means a lot to me to be playing for this incredible organization,” said Donovan. “I know I have to work extra hard to make sure I am the best player I can be for this team. I am going to do everything I can to make sure I am ready.”
