November is Special Olympics Game Month in the OHL
The Ontario Hockey League, Law Enforcement Torch Run, and Special Olympics Ontario are teaming up for the 10th year to raise awareness around the Special Olympics movement during the month of November, which has been designated as Special Olympics Game Month.
“We are very pleased to continue our involvement and longstanding support of Special Olympics throughout the month of November,” said OHL Commissioner David Branch. “Our organizations believe in the power and benefits of sport, athletes supporting athletes, and giving back to our communities.”
Special Olympics games in OHL rinks may include ceremonial puck drops with Special Olympics Ontario athletes and staff along with members of local law enforcement. Fans will have the opportunity to learn more about Special Olympics Ontario at kiosk displays and help contribute funds through the annual ‘Pass the Bucket’ initiative.
The Kitchener Rangers will host their Special Olympics Ontario game night on Sunday, November 19 versus the Peterborough Petes at 6pm.
“Special Olympics Ontario is very proud of its affiliation with the OHL,” said Glenn MacDonnell, President & CEO of Special Olympics Ontario. “For over 10 years, Special Olympics has benefitted from the enthusiastic support of all OHL teams. The visibility and promotion that the teams and the players give to Special Olympics athletes is heartwarming and makes a real difference in the lives of individuals with an intellectual disability.”
