McGonigle and Llewellyn most recent players on the RBC School Tour
Kitchener Rangers players Darby Llewellyn and Chris McGonigle visited Our Lady of Lourdes School in Waterloo on Thursday, November 10th for Read with the Rangers with students in Mrs. Chidiac’s Grade 3 and 4 class.
Read with the Rangers is a program that focuses on the importance of literacy while having fun. Students have the opportunity to read with their favourite Rangers players, and learn a little more about the players’ experiences through reading and education.
Two Rangers players discuss important lessons with the students like respect, goal-setting, sportsmanship and teamwork.
Darby and Chris were asked lots of interesting questions after reading Brady Brady and the MVP, and Brady Brady and the Singing Tree to the group, including who influenced them.
“My Dad is a big influence on me,” said Chris.
“I was influenced by my brother from a young age,” added Darby. “I was at the rink when I was jus ta few weeks old watching him, so growing up and having him to look up to was very influential to me.”
They both talked about how they have fun playing hockey, and feel a sense of accomplishment when they find success in a game after they have worked so hard practicing beforehand.
“Having fun is what is most important,” Chris told the students. “The more fun you have playing sports, the more friends you make, the better you play, and the better you feel as a person.”
“The respect you have for your teammates and coaches should be the same you have in the classroom for your classmates and your teacher,” added Darby.
