Rangers sign goaltender Luca DiFelice
Kitchener, Ont. – The Kitchener Rangers announced today that goaltender Luca DiFelice (pronounced dee-fuh-lee-chay) has committed to an OHL Standard Player Agreement (SPA) and education package with the club.
“Luca is highly regarded as one of the top goaltenders in the 2022 OHL Draft,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie. “He is a competitor on the ice and will be a great addition to our club. We look forward to developing Luca moving forward.”
DiFelice was selected by the Rangers in the fourth round, 72nd overall, of the 2022 OHL Priority Selection. He is the second-highest goaltender selected by the Rangers in the past eight years after Jackson Parsons who was picked in the third round, 53rd overall of the 2020 OHL Draft. Most recently, DiFelice currently plays for the Toronto Marlboros U18 AAA hockey club in the GTHL.
“Signing with the Rangers is amazing just because of the history behind this organization,” said DiFelice. “With the amount of top NHL prospects that have come from the Rangers, I think it’s the best path as a player to get to the next level. They are the best organization in the OHL, the way they treat all of their players and staff is top notch. It’s hard to take it all in right now but I cannot wait to play a part of what’s ahead.”
A native of Brampton, Ont., DiFelice spent the majority of his minor hockey playing eight consecutive years with the Don Mills Flyers in the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL). At the OHL Cup this past Spring, DiFelice recorded a 2.34 goals against average (GAA) and a .908 save percentage (SAV%) in three games and was named the Flyers most valuable player/player of the game in the tournament.
DiFelice will be on the bench with the Rangers at The Aud tonight and will wear number 34 for Kitchener.
