Rangers acquire Generals’ Captain Lleyton Moore
Kitchener, Ont. – The Kitchener Rangers announced today that the club has completed a trade with the Oshawa Generals.
In the trade, the Rangers acquire Generals’ captain and overage defenceman Lleyton Moore from Oshawa. In return, the Rangers trade overage forward Joseph Serpa, London’s second-round pick in the 2024 OHL Priority Selection, London’s third-round pick in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection and Kitchener’s eighth-round pick in the 2025 OHL Priority Selection to the Generals.
“We’d like to welcome Lleyton to the Rangers’ organization,” said Kitchener Rangers General Manager Mike McKenzie. “He is a proven leader coming to us as a captain in this league and will bring a veteran presence to our back end.”
Moore, 20, comes to Kitchener after the Rangers have posted four consecutive victories and have won five of their past six games.
He was a first-round selection, 12th-overall, in the 2018 OHL Priority Selection. A 5-foot-8, 176-pound left-shot defenceman, Moore has recorded 119 points (17G, 102A) and a plus-33 rating in 185 games, now in his fifth year in the OHL. Impressively, Moore amassed 54 points (5G, 49A) in 67 games during the 2021-22 OHL season.
“I’m really excited. I’ve heard just good things about Kitchener and I’m happy to get started,” said Moore. “It’s great to be going to a team that is going for a championship and I’m happy this opportunity is with Kitchener. I’ll do anything I can to bring a championship to this city.”
A native of Woodbridge, Ont., Moore most recently was invited to the Arizona Coyotes development camp this past summer. He spent his youth hockey playing for the Toronto Marlboros AAA hockey club, winning the Greater Toronto Hockey League (GTHL) U15 and U16 championships in 2017 and 2018.
Moore arrived to Kitchener this afternoon and will join the Rangers for practice tomorrow. He will wear number 11 for Kitchener.
