Game Recap: An Offensive Attack in Owen Sound
Game Summary: Kitchener scored twice in the first and never looked back in a 5-1 win over Owen Sound. Matthew Sop scored twice in the arena where he played his first ever OHL game while Eduard Šalé put up three points in the win to give Kitchener a 4-3 season series lead. Matthew Andonovski recorded his 50th career point with an assist in the game. The two teams will play each other one more time in the regular season on March 15th in Kitchener.

1st Period
OS 0, KIT 1
7:44 Cameron Reid (2) – Eduard Šalé, Adrian Misaljevic
Cameron Reid put the Rangers on the board first as he tapped in the puck past Carter George following a pass from Eduard Šalé. Šalé had received the puck from Adrian Misaljevic and skated it in the Attack zone. Šalé saw Reid driving towards the net and sent a hard pass to Reid which he put behind George.

19:28 Matthew Sop (38) – Carson Rehkopf, Hunter Brzustewicz
Matthew Sop doubled the lead as he scored one-on-one with Carter George. Carson Rehkopf skated atop the Owen Sound zone drawing the defender up towards him. He then slipped a pass down to Matthew Sop who had a clear lane to charge towards George. While attempting the deke, the puck was poked off his stick onto the net where it slipped past George for Kitchener’s second goal of the game.
2nd Period
OS 1, KIT 2
5:15 Ethan Burroughs (30) – Declan Waddick, Deni Goure
Ethan Burroughs put Owen Sound on the board after capitalizing on a bouncing puck. Declan Waddick attempted a pass to Burroughs that got deflected into the air in the neutral zone. While in the air Burroughs found it and knocked it forward giving himself a lane in on Jackson Parsons. He faked the forehand on the goaltender and put a backhand five-hole, cutting the lead in half.

14:03 Trent Swick (24) – Filip Mešár, Eduard Šalé – PPG
Trent Swick got a piece of Filip Mešár’s shot on the Rangers powerplay marker. Kitchener was awarded a powerplay as Jackson Stewart took a two-minute penalty for a check to the head at 12:36. Eduard Šalé got the power play going as he circled the Attack blueline before sending a pass down to Mešár in the slot. Mešár held the puck and took it around a diving defender before sending a shot glove side on a screened Cater George. Swick tipped it while screening the goalie and the Rangers re-established their two-goal lead.
OS 1, KIT 4
17:13 Matthew Sop (39) – Matthew Andonovski, Hunter Brzustewicz
Matthew Sop scored the easiest goal of his career as he tapped home the Blueshirt’s fourth goal into an empty net. Hunter Brzustewicz passed Matthew Andonovski the puck along the blueline. He skated down and saw Sop posted up behind the defenders on top of the crease and perfectly placed a pass to Sop who redirected the puck in.
3rd Period
OS 1, KIT 5
10:40 Eduard Šalé (12) – Filip Mešár
Eduard Šalé scored Kitchener’s third unanswered goal low glove after receiving a nice pass from Filip Mešár. The Slovakian forward forechecked hard, eventually gaining control of the puck. He sent a pass between the legs to Šalé who wasted no time putting the puck in the back of the net.

The Goalies:
Carter George made 39 saves on 44 shots in the loss. His season record moves to 20-19-5-3. Jackson Parsons got the start for Kitchener and he stood strong making 36 of 37 potential saves and moving his season record to 26-15-1-0 with the win.

Up Next: The Rangers return to the Aud Friday to take on the Flint Firebirds for the last time this season.
