FINAL: Rangers 4, Attack 1
The Kitchener Rangers headed north to face The Owen Sound Attack for the second last time this regular season. The Rangers were looking to build off their big win over Sarnia on Friday night.
Owen Sound opened the scoring five minutes into the game, jumping out to the early 1-0 lead. Midway through the period, Trent Swick snapped a shot past Owen Sound’s goaltender Corbin Votary to tie the game 1-1. The Rangers thought they took the lead late in the 1st, but after review, the play was offside. The Rangers drew a penalty to go on the powerplay but could not capitalize on the man advantage. Just after, Owen Sound had their turn on a powerplay that carried over into the 2nd.
The Rangers began the period killing off the rest of the penalty and looked to gain the lead. Francesco Pinelli scored his 22nd goal of the season, making it 2-1 Rangers. On a pending powerplay, Reid Valade snapped a shot past Votary as an extra skater, extending the lead to 3-1.
Six seconds into the 3rd, Mitchell Martin was given a match penalty for slew footing, bringing out the penalty-killing unit for five minutes. The Rangers killed the entire penalty off and then capitalized on their own powerplay. Carson Rehkopf sniped a shot in to make it 4-1. The Rangers took this contest by a final score of 4-1.
Jackson Parsons was stellar in this start, stopping 37 of 38 shots. We look to continue the momentum as we face off against Erie for a big game on April 11th at 6:00 p.m.
