Kingson’s Evan Brand took a delay of game penalty at 3:13 of the first period. On the ensuing power-play, Declan McDonnell (2) picked up a rebound in the slot and fired it past Ryan Dugas to give the Rangers an early lead, 1-0.
Mike Petizian and Reid Valade picked up assists on the goal.
A short time later at 6:19, Jonathan Yantsis found Francesco Pinelli (7) streaking into the offensive zone and the rookie snuck it five-hole to put the Rangers up 2-0.
Arber Xhekaj also earned an assist on the insurance goal.
There wouldn’t be any further scoring in the first 20 minutes and the period ended with the Rangers leading in shots, 9-6.
Kingston halved the lead when Shane Wright, from the side of the net, took a shot wide of Jacob Ingham that took an unfortunate bounce off Ville Ottavainen to make it 2-1.
Kitchener restored their two-goal lead on a power-play when a shot from in front of the blue line by Ottavainen was tipped by Valade (5) into the back of the net to make it 3-1.
The Frontenacs struck back quickly and, 31 seconds later, Zayde Wisdom rifled home his seventh going high, glove-side on an unobstructed shot from the left face-off circle.
After two periods, the Rangers led in shots 21-17.
In the third period, despite ending the game on a six-on-four power-play and with an empty net, the Frontenacs couldn’t find a way to beat Ingham a third time and the Rangers squeaked out a 3-2 victory.
Final shots were 28-27 in favour of the home team.
The next home game for the Rangers is on Friday November 1st at 7:30 pm versus the Owen Sound Attack. The next road game is on Saturday November 10th at 6:05 pm versus the Oshawa Generals.
