Recap: Team White uses third-period push to win Development Camp series
Kitchener, Ont. – Liam Cardiff recorded a four-point game to lead Team White to a 7-1 victory in game three Sunday morning, winning the Kitchener Rangers 2023 Development Camp series two games to one.
Team White started the scoring 11:21 into the contest when Braeden Vis scored blockerside past Evan Maillet from the slot to earn the early lead. Cardiff was credited with the primary assist. Luca Romano then tied the game for Team Blue four minutes later on a shot from the right circle, far side past Luca DiFelice. Luka Cenanovic and Owen Redmond picked up the helpers.
The game was tied 1-1 after the first 20 minute half.
Team White recorded a six-goal second half to earn the 7-1 victory. First, Gleb Akimov dropped a pass in the slot to Brayden Besner, who found twine shortside past Owen Edwards 1:20 into the second. Seth Doney grabbed the secondary assist. Then Liam Cardiff caused a turnover in the offense zone and fired the puck into the net blockerside at 2:17. Cardiff scored his second of the game at 13:00 converting on a loose puck in the slot and snapping a quick shot blockerside.
Then, while on a two-on-one, Brayden Besner dished a pass to Matthew Hlacar who lit-the-lamp top-shelf past a diving Edwards at 15:01. Nearly 40 seconds later, Brady Hamlin scored on a one-timer with the pass coming from Cardiff. Finally, Cameron Arquette buried on a rebound with 2:33 remaining in the contest to finalize the scoring 7-1 in favour of Team White.
Sunday morning’s game wrapped-up a three-day weekend where 36 skaters visited Kitchener for fitness testing, four on-ice sessions and tours of both the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium Complex and the Waterloo Region. Rangers’ newly drafted prospects from the 2023 OHL Priority Selection and 2023 U-18 Priority Selection, prospects from previous OHL Priority Selections, as well as free agent invites were in attendance.
