2019 OHL Gold Cup Day 2 Recap
GTHL Blue and GTHL Red both stayed undefeated while OMHA White and the ALLIANCE both scored their first victories on Day 2 of the 2019 OHL Gold Cup in Kitchener, Ont.
GOALS COME IN BUNCHES AS GTHL RED OVERPOWERS OMHA BLACK
GTHL RED 8 (2-0-0-0) – OMHA BLACK 5 (0-1-1-0)
GTHL Red and OMHA Black swapped leads through 40 minutes of play before the former stormed in front for good in the third thanks to two goals from both Marc Boudreau (SSM) and Shane Wright (KGN).
The 8-5 victory saw Boudreau and Wright finish with three points each while Alex Christopoulos (NB), Luca Del Bel Belluz (MISS), Paul Christopoulos (NB) and Jack Beck (OTT) also lit the lamp. Big blueliner Chandler Romeo (HAM) recorded three assists.
Tommy Johnston (OTT) recorded the first hat-trick of the 2019 OHL Gold Cup, putting OMHA Black in the lead 5-4 after two periods. Kaleb Nelson (HAM) scored twice while Johnston’s Whitby Wildcats teammates Brenden Sirizzotti (OTT) and Ryan Winterton (HAM) both had two assists.
GTHL Red outshot OMHA Black 48-27 as Nicholas Von Kaufmann stopped all 11 shots he faced for the win in 21 minutes of work.

ZILIOTTO, GARVIE PUSH OMHA WHITE PAST HEO
OMHA WHITE 4 (1-0-0-1) – HEO 0 (1-1-0-0)
Joshua Ziliotto (NB) scored twice and Carter Garvie (SAG) stopped all 15 shots he faced as OMHA White blanked HEO 4-0.
J.R. Avon (PBO) and Ethan Larmand (SBY) also scored as OMHA White outshot HEO 31-15 and went 1-for-3 on the power play.
HEO’s Jacob Osborne made 27 saves in the loss as his club fell to 1-1.

GTHL BLUE MAKES QUICK WORK OF HNO
GTHL BLUE 10 (2-0-0-0) – HNO 1 (0-2-0-0)
Francesco Pinelli (KIT) banged in a hat-trick while Justin Ertel (NB) had a goal and three assists as GTHL Blue stayed perfect in a 10-1 rout of HNO.
Three other GTHL Blue players had three point contests as Danny Zhilkin (GUE) scored twice and added an assist while Flint Firebirds prospects Brennan Othmann (1G, 2A) and Braeden Kressler (1G, 2A) were also regulars on the scoresheet.
Nolan Dann (SAR) and Aidan Shepard (NB) also found the back of the net for GTHL Blue while HNO’s Noah Broughton snapped the shutout bid midway through the third period.
Justin Wu (KIT) was near perfect in the GTHL Blue crease to get the win.

WIDESPREAD CONTRIBUTIONS PROPEL ALLIANCE TO FIRST WIN
ALLIANCE 6 (1-1-0-0) – NOHA 2 (1-1-0-0)
Fifteen different players had points as the ALLIANCE rode a four-goal second period to a 6-2 win over NOHA.
Cayden Faust (KGN) got the scoring started with his first of two on the game while Deni Goure (OS), Maddox Callens (KGN), Marko Sikic (GUE) and Brett Harrison (OSH) added singles.
The two sides were tied 1-1 after 20 minutes before the ALLIANCE pulled away in the second.
Mitchell Martin (KIT) and Chase Stillman (SBY) provided NOHA goals as they fell to 1-1 in the showcase.
ALLIANCE outshot NOHA 39-19.
