The series is tied at two games apiece following Games 3 and 4 in North Bay.

On Sunday afternoon, the Petes took Game 3 in overtime after Kieron Walton scored his second OT goal in as many games. Peterborough carried a 2–1 series lead into Tuesday night for Game 4 but came up short, falling 4–0 to the Battalion.

Tonight, Peterborough will look to bounce back from Tuesday’s loss and take a 3–2 series lead with a win on home ice.

The Petes’ offence was not clicking in Game 4, as they were shut out for the second time in the series. Being back at home should help spark the team, especially with attendance already well ahead of Games 1 and 2. The Petes will look to potential first-round NHL pick Adam Novotny to set the tone in Game 5. Novotny has been snake-bitten so far this postseason, but the chances he’s generating are bound to pay off. After being robbed twice in Game 4, he’ll have extra motivation tonight as he looks to get on the board.

This series has not been for the faint of heart. All four games have featured gritty, physical hockey, and that is not expected to change. Garrett Frazer, Grayden Strohack, Braydon McCallum, and Brett Hammond have all been game-changers when they’re on the ice, using their physical play to disrupt North Bay’s system.

The Battalion looked very comfortable at home in Game 4, scoring four goals on 39 shots in regulation. Cam Warren and Ryder Cali led the way offensively for North Bay, each recording a goal and an assist. Jack Lisson once again looked steady in the Battalion net after taking over for the suspended Mike McIvor. Lisson picked up his second shutout of the series, stopping all 33 Peterborough shots.

On the back end, Aaron Enright continues to be a difference-maker in the series. He has been solid defensively while also playing a physical game and contributing offensively.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Easton Rye was outstanding in net, stopping 47/48 shots in the win.

With the OT goal, the OHL Heroes Program donated another $2,000 to Marentette’s Mission. After Easton Rye set the tone early with a massive save two minutes into the game, the Petes faithful knew that they would have a goaltender battle on their hands. A physical, gritty two periods followed, with neither team really having the upper hand. It wouldn’t be until late in the second period, when an innocent looking shot from Lirim Amidovski hit off of the crossbar, then off of Rye’s back, trickled over the goal line to break the ice. Peterborough would push for an equalizer in the third, at one point hitting three posts in a 20 second stretch, but would be unable to find it as North Bay took Game 1 by a score of 1-0.

Tonight, the two teams face off once again at the PMC, with Peterborough looking to tie the series before heading to North Bay for games 3 and 4. This will be the first time since the 2023 playoffs that the Petes play at home on back-to-back nights. Game 1 is now the fourth out of five games this season between Peterborough and North Bay that has been decided by one goal, with the fifth being a Battalion 3-1 win with an empty netter. The series so far looks like it is going to be the series to watch for the first round of the OHL playoffs.

In game 1, Easton Rye showed why he was the winner of the Petes Executive Trophy this season (MVP as voted by teammates). Rye put the team on his back, making multiple huge saves all night. After 60 minutes, Rye stopped 29/30, a stellar OHL playoff debut. To get a result tonight, the Petes offence will need to show what they can do. They showed flashes of brilliance last night, but will have to show more consistency moving forward. With only six players on this Petes team having any previous playoff experience, it’s the veterans’ time to take over and lead this team to hit their full potential.

On the North Bay side, their playoff experience certainly showed in game one. Opposite the Petes, the Battalion only have six players on their roster without any previous playoff experience. Jack Lisson proved to be a rock behind the North Bay defence, stopping all 26 Petes shots in his OHL playoff debut. The Battalion penalty kill really stepped up in Game 1. Both captain Ethan Procyszyn and Ryder Cali were forces on the PK, not only pressuring the Petes power play, but forcing multiple shorthanded chances.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre. Tonight will mark the first time that the Petes and Battalion have faced off in the playoffs since the Eastern Conference Finals in 2023. That series turned out to be one of the best playoff series in recent memory. In game six, the Battalion led with under 10 minutes left in the third and had a chance to knock Peterborough out. After Sam Mayer tied the game, Avery Hayes saved the Petes season, scoring in OT to send it to game seven. In game seven, J.R. Avon’s breakaway goal in the third period proved to be the series winner as the Petes would go on to beat London in six games to secure the J. Ross Robertson Cup.

Tonight, the Petes will turn to Winnipeg Jets prospect Kieron Walton to get the offence going. Walton finished 8th in league scoring this season (88P) and third in goals, hitting 40 markers for the first time in his OHL career. Walton also has 14 games of playoff experience under his belt and will look to be the difference not only tonight, but in the series. As far as playoff experience goes, both James Petrovski and Matthew Soto will be big assets to this Petes team. Both OAs, brought in via trades in the offseason, have a combined 57 OHL playoff games between them. In net, OHL regular season wins leader and Red Tilson nominee Easton Rye will lead from the crease. Rye tied the Petes single season record for wins this season with 38 and is primed and ready for his postseason debut.

When it comes to the Battalion, they’re led by 2006-born centre and Anaheim Ducks third round pick Ethan Procyszyn. Procyszyn has been a force this season, using his size and experience to not only score 31 goals, but also be a physical presence, making other teams aware when he’s on the ice. Tampa Bay Lightning prospect Kaden Pitre has also been great for North Bay since being acquired from the Flint Firebirds. After a slow start to the season in Flint, Pitre was a point a game player after joining up with North Bay. In the crease, North Bay has multiple options. Jack Lisson has been one of the top goaltenders in the OHL this season, taking the starting job after Mike McIvor went down with an injury earlier this season. McIvor has recently returned from his extended absence and is coming off being named the OHL’s Goaltender of the Week.

Puck drop is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
